The national mobilization, by Organizing for America – militant arm of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) – and the group Health Care for America Now, is a response to protests from opponents of reform that have attracted heavy media attention.

The offensive end on September 8, when Congress reconvenes to continue negotiating the final text of a bill that provides universal health coverage, expand the medical options and cheaper exorbitant health care costs in America.

President Barack Obama outlined the elements of the reform project, one of his campaign promises during a popular assembly, in Green Bay (Wisconsin) in June but Congress controlled by Democrats, did not reach consensus on the bill before the August summer recess.

Brad Woodhouse, spokesman for the DNC, told EFE that he is an effort with over two thousand events scheduled, in order to demonstrate the support of the American public to health system reform, which are presently deprived of health insurance to nearly 47 million people.

mobilization, which has the backing of unions, faith communities and advocacy groups for the elderly, including political meetings, home visits, collection of letters to Congress, discussion with medical authorities, banks phones and marches.

For a march next Monday in Newport Beach (California), the Free Enterprise Advocates group has asked the protesters carrying of American flags and pictures of loved ones who have been denied coverage medical.

As part of an effort to raise awareness of the precariousness of the health system, a bus of Health Care for America Now tour the country and make stops in eleven cities, including Phoenix (Arizona), Albuquerque (New Mexico), Denver (Colorado), Des Moines (Iowa) and Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania).

also come to Raleigh and Charlotte, both in South Carolina, Milwaukee (Wisconsin), St. Louis (Missouri), Indianapolis (Indiana) and Columbus (Ohio), according to organizers.

Sara El-Amine, director at Arizona Organizing for America (OFA), said in an email to supporters of the group's meeting in Phoenix tomorrow night, the speakers, explained the meaning of reform and how to counter the lies (of opponents) in addition to present thousands of statements in favor of reform.

We want members of Congress return to Washington with the call for reform in the memory cool … but not We can do it without a major show of support from voters who know what is at stake, he said El-Amine to ask that voters are part of history.

Both the White House and Democratic leaders of the hierarchy, including Obama himself, have accused some Republicans and conservative groups right of spreading myths and use scare tactics to undermine the efforts for reform.

Obama has sought to oust these myths and has even used the Bible to say that health is not only a right but a moral obligation.

Thus, the national campaign, experts say, reflects the fears of Democrats that this strategy is seeping into the public.

A national survey conducted between 14 and 18 August indicated past , for example, that more than half of Americans believe that the public choice-in which the federal government may offer health insurance and compete with the private sector will increase health costs. EFE
