Iran worked on nuclear bomb in 2007: report
Citing a confidential Iranian technical paper, the Times of London described a four-year plan to test a neutron initiator, the atomic bomb that initiates the explosion. The Times said the device had no civilian uses.
Iran, the fifth largest crude oil exporter in the world, says its nuclear program is aimed at generating electricity so it can export more oil and gas.
Mark Fitzpatrick, chief analyst of proliferation at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, told Reuters, as described, the documents “sound very similar to elements of a nuclear weapons design. “
” The implications are very serious, as they imply that Iran”s march closer to producing a nuclear weapon. And I do not let that stop Israel pass, “said Fitzpatrick on the report.
Israel, to be the only Middle East nuclear arsenal, says a nuclear-armed Iran would threaten its existence, and points to the so-called Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who has called for the Jewish state be wiped off the map.
These statements have raised fears that Israel may eventually attack Iran”s nuclear facilities.
Tehran is determined to continue with uranium enrichment program, which the West suspects is focused on producing bombs.
Last month, an increase in the tension between Iran and the powers that seek a diplomatic solution, the panel of 35 nations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA by its English acronym) decided to rebuke Iran for building a second secret enrichment plant near the holy city of Qom.
The country already has a uranium enrichment facility in Natanz, the IAEA declared in 2003 after Iranian exiled opposition to publicize the existence of the complex.
